Brian has been involved with playing, coaching, and developing players of all ages over the last 30 years. His passion lies in helping young players reach their highest potential. His approach is very detail oriented and tailored to each player’s individual needs. Brian’s playing career saw him star at Northfield Mount Hermon Prep School, where he graduated from in 2002. He was selected to the All Prep School Second Team as a junior. As a senior at NMH, Brian was named to the All Prep School First Team and received the Prep School Offensive MVP leading the league in goal scoring. Upon graduation, Brian spent his collegiate career playing for the University of Massachusetts-Lowell, who compete in the Hockey East Association, which is regarded as one of the top college hockey leagues in the country. Upon graduating with his Sociology degree in 2006 Brian began his coaching career as a graduate assistant for his alma-mater. His primary focus for Umass-Lowell was scouting and video breakdown. Brian spent the next two seasons coaching for St. Michaels College in Burlington VT as well as Division 1 member American International College in Springfield, MA. Coach Bova helped guide St. Michael’s College to their first conference championship in over a decade spearheading the defensive corps and working with the team penalty kill units. At AIC, Brian was the primary recruiter and worked with the defense and penalty kill units as well as serving as the teams academic advisor. Brian has since coached on a small group and individual lessons basis helping players focus on the dynamics of skating, puck control and overall skill development. The passion he brings to the sport as well as to each player he works with is contagious. Brian currently works within the New England Stars organization coaching and developing players through practices and skills sessions. Brian lives in Windham, NH with his wife and two sons.

Our Services:

As an advisor/consultant, Brian will be working very closely with your son/daughter in a variety of aspects as it relates to the game. He is a big believer that coaching is by no means a one size fits all approach. Based on each players specific needs Brian tailors a program to focus on and develop these areas. The approach does not consist of just on ice coaching, but rather a full range of services that give the player the opportunity to take full advantage of the pivotal years before high school, Prep School, or Junior hockey. Brian is a tactful and direct motivator and aims to help each player understand where they are as individuals and players and where they are capable of going in terms of their hockey careers.

Live Scouting Consult:

Our advisors will be present for player’s games to evaluate player.  During this time, the scout will come up with a detailed evaluation that explains his strengths, weaknesses, and potential areas of improvement. For a portion of the game our scouts will converse with the parents or caregivers of the player to answer any questions that pertain to their child directly or provide guidance for any hockey specific questions.

Post-Game Consultation:

At the conclusion of the players game, a member of our professional staff will sit with the player as well as parents if they desire, to review their play for that specific game as well as the scouts overall impressions of his/her game.  Discussion to entail points of emphasis and areas to focus on.

Video Breakdown:

The importance of video work as it pertains to hockey is something that is often overlooked, however is something that can bring massive benefits to the players understanding of their game as well as the overall flow of the game. Our staff will breakdown the player’s shifts and add comments to each shift for players review.

One on One Ice:

This is one of the most beneficial parts of our program. Our professional staff will work one on one with your son/daughter on their specific hockey needs. The aim of these sessions is to improve areas of weakness, correct any bad habits that have been developed, and to put the player through a demanding and challenging workout with drills and concepts that they can take into their regular practices and games.

Life Skills:

At B3 Consulting we are not solely focusing on how to make our clients better hockey players. We are equally focused on building a strong foundation in other areas of their lives. It is my goal to help facilitate stand up young men and women and to narrow their focus and prioritize those areas of their life that need the most attention.

Family Advisor Plan:

Choosing the right path in terms of your child’s hockey career can at times be confusing and challenging. With so many programs, coaches, and schools out there it may present a daunting task to select just one. This is where I can offer my expertise and help direct you and your child in the direction that is best suited for them. Through my knowledge of junior hockey, the Prep School circuit, and the area coaches I will sit down devise a game plan in terms of potential options, and help drive those decisions in terms of making the best option become a reality for your son or daughter.

Q What role does a family advisor play?

As family advisors we help navigate the client (player) and their parents through the process of placing their child at the next level in terms of hockey advancement. A strong advisor is one who has been through the process and has a strong network of connections to help aid in this advancement. As advisers we answer any questions pertaining to the development of the player as well as take a hands on active role in guiding the family in the right direction as it pertains to team, program, and school placement.

Q When is the right time?

The timing of a family advisor will vary from player to player; but generally a family advisor begins to take an active role with the player and parents before they make a jump to the next level, whether it be junior hockey, high school hockey, prep school hockey or college hockey. At times through these pivotal years there may seem to be a multitude of directions that you are feeling pulled towards, whether it be by coaches, parents, or simply confusion as to what the right path for your child may be. If these questions or confusion has arisen then it may be time to look into having someone help navigate through the chaos that sometimes it may feel like.

Q What can I expect if my son/daughter becomes a client?

This is the question we get the most. The short answer is simple. Your son/daughter will get whatever they need for them to advance their game and become better hockey players. By providing this we are putting them in the best position to advance their careers. The more complex answer is they will be receiving mentorship, guidance, motivation, and a more clear-cut understanding of where they may want to go in terms of their hockey careers. Our goal is to become that driving force behind their development to not only inspire from a hockey perspective but to also enhance the attention to detail in other areas of their lives which will serve them greatly as they navigate unchartered waters in the years ahead.

Q How can we become a client of B3 Hockey Consulting Group?

Unfortunately we cannot accept every player/family that reaches out for consulting. It is my belief that individualized attention and commitment is what makes our brand and group unique. It is our goal that the clients we do accept are given time and attention. Sacrificing these two valuable commodities by accepted too many players and families will deduct from the overall experience of those families who have committed to us.
